1.8.19 Meeting Recap

13 Jan 2019 by Rebecca King

Rifles!

Our evening started out with delicious food. It is not part of our meetings in an official sense, but it is a tradition many of us have come to enjoy. We just show up a little early to order food and enjoy each other’s company. Everyone is welcome to join us.

The chapter t-shirts have arrived and many were distributed. If you missed it, you can pick yours up at the next meeting.

I have not forgotten about the first aid training. I am actively working in the background on scheduling and will let you know as soon as I have an update.

Our chapter had very low participation in the 4th quarter match. It is my goal to make a change in that area and I have a plan to do it. We will all participate in the 1st quarter match at the chapter level. Hopefully, this will be a confidence builder and stepping stone into going national with me in the future.

Due to SHOT Show, the GNO scheduled for the 4th Tuesday of this month is cancelled. We discussed a make up date, and decided on January 29th. It is on the calendar. Good thing there are 5 Tuesdays this month.

I’m sure you’ve already received an alert, but we are having a Meet & Greet February 5th, 7:00-9:00 p.m. This is for anyone who is new, or considering joining us, that would like to learn more about A Girl & A Gun and our local chapter. All ladies are welcome.

The announcement for the new 3 Gun University program has gone live. Details are on the A Girl & A Gun website. I’m excited about this one because it is an all inclusive trip. Food, housing, targets, classes, evening activities, instructors, demonstrations and the He-man major match are all included in the registration fee. Or maybe I’m excited because I am one of the instructors. Either way, it’s going to be a blast! If you are interested, jump on it. There are only 10 slots.

Since we were heading to the 35 yard range for rifle shooting, which is a short distance for that platform, I briefly covered mechanical offset. That is the distance from what you see in your reticle or red dot, to the center of the bore. At close range, you have to adjust your aim in order to hit your bull.

In the spirit of rifle shooting, each lady received a 30 round AR-15 magazine, courtesy of Hexmag. If you get a chance, send them a quick thank you on social media.

Once we got on the range, we had to share lanes. Once again, everyone was gracious and shared with a pleasant attitude. Some used rifles, some used pistols, some used both. I love our versatility. We are all amazing, talented, and capable women!

At the next meeting, we will briefly discuss our plan for the year. I think you are really going to like what you see. On the range, we will have an activity I think you will all enjoy.
