2.26.19 Meeting Recap

10 Mar 2019 by Rebecca King

Top 10 Announcements:

1. We have grown. As a result, we now have a standing reservation for the larger bay. This should cut down on the wait time to shoot, as well as give us a little more elbow room while on, and behind, the line.

It sometimes takes me longer to arrive inside the bay. I will distribute your targets prior to range check in to help speed up the process. Remember the range is always hot. Eye and ear protection should already be in place upon entry to the bay. You do not need to wait for approval to get your gear out and start getting your lane ready. It is okay to handle your firearms and ammunition at the line. Let me know if you have any questions about this.

2. I always welcome new shooters. That said, Girl’s Night Out is not intended to be a woman’s first ever experience with a firearm. I prefer ladies to have attended an introductory course prior to shooting with us. This is to ensure safety rules and other important basics are in place before jumping in with live fire side-by-side everyone else. We are a pistol club, not a pistol class.

If given a heads up that a lady wants to join us and shoot for the first time, I am willing to come early and spend time with her to cover safety and handling. Please let me know and I will do my best to be accommodating.

It is my primary responsibility to ensure everyone has a safe, positive experience with us and it brings me joy to do that.

3. Our AR-15 Familiarization & Maintenance course is coming up on March 12, 2019. This class is good for anyone who owns, or is looking to own, an AR-15 or AR-10 in the future. It is also good for anyone who does not own one, but would like to understand what the big deal is with them.

Please RSVP for this one! I need to know how many are coming so I can plan accordingly. Also, when you RSVP, please answer the question. Type in “yes” if you need to borrow one.

Please come early enough to check in and get situated as there is a lot of information to cover and a short amount of time to cover it. I will not be doing the normal announcements. We will just dive right in.

Please note: We will be in the “Stock” room rather than our normal “Barrel” room because I will be using their audio/visual equipment.

We have the entire 35 yard rifle bay reserved, but we will still be sharing lanes. Please bring an empty chamber flag for your rifle. So we can move around more quickly without compromising safety.

4. In order to help eliminate check in confusion with payments, I have created punch cards for those who choose to prepay for meetings. They are available in $20 denominations.

5. On March 26, 2019 we will be in the Simunitions room with Will Andrews. We will not be shooting, so you can leave your gear at home.

You can think of Simunitions as simulation ammunition. It is non-lethal training ammunition used when conducting simulations. Similar to a cross between airsoft and paintball, but totally different. Anyway, we will NOT be shooting at each other. Will is going to use the training environment to teach us about defense strategies in buildings like a home or a convenience store. I cannot give specific details because I don’t have them, but I know it will be amazing!

6. Our final opportunity to participate in the First Quarter Match as a group will be Thursday, March 21st, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

7. National Conference is getting closer. If you have any questions regarding guns, gear, training, or anything else related to conference, let me know.

8. Holster qualifications are coming soon. I’m looking at April 4th, but I’ll confirm as soon as I can. Once you are qualified on this range, you’ll be able to practice anytime you want.

9. Many of you have been happy to help out in various areas during our meetings from check in to assistant RSO’s, and everything else in between. I’m so thankful for each of you. Please welcome Vallon Catero as our second official A-Team member. You can read a little more about her under Leadership Team in TeamApp.

10. Finally, if you see anything that you think we can work on to improve, please let me know. I am open to constructive criticism and positive suggestions or feedback. I want us all to look forward to each Girl’s Night Out, confident we are going to enjoy each other’s company, be safe at all times, and challenge each other to be better women and shooters.

See you on Tuesday!
